East of England Championship Show 2015 Critique

Not as large an entry as the last time I judged, so harder to find a “thread” of type but  a pleasing entry, Some concerns to me are over exaggeration on the angles, and steep pelvis sets, which of course pushes the quarters forward, making  the hound look over shapely (but attractive to some,) on the stand, and sadly they move as they stand, this structure does not allow free flowing  and sound movement, they can’t drive out on the back end  and have no fluidity or forward reach. They move as they stand bouncing along, with banana shaped toplines that can’t unlock, to me from an ability to work and Standard  point of view, it’s a serious fault, also too many flat and splayed feet with no cushion, a “Porsche” with flat tyres , another really bad fault in a galloping hound built to hunt on craggy high terrain.  Tail sets were good and only a couple of light eyes, also all mouths correct. Thank you to my lovely stewards.

2nd Miss M J Girling's PYEFLEET TIMOTHY

Due to  little home grooming and removal of some hair in his loin  this gave the impression of a herring gut, which he does not have, I forgave, as this hound is so honest, not the largest, not one that screams out at you, but totally unexaggerated, lovely type, gentle eye, moved out very soundly. Workmanlike and true to the standard.

OPEN DOG 4,0

1st Mr & Mrs Hawkins' CH KWARICOTT CORELLI

4 years of age, I liked this hound very much the last time I judged him, and at 4 he has matured wonderfully,  Super masculine head, lovely neck, flowing  into a well laid back shoulder, and return to upper arm, the best here today, good feet with cushion, long cast, but  balanced, correct angulations to stifle, pelvis well set, allowing a correct fall away, powerful second thigh, lovely low hocks that have such good  fluidity, when moving, incredibly wide powerful back end, used his rudder well on the corners, lovely bone, the best moving hound here today,, he  moved with great forward reach and super power from the rear, such a joy to see this, an honest  well constructed sound moving dog hound (he reminded me of “Ardkinglas Taurus”) a truly superb male Deerhound, CC.

2nd  MRS S Baumann's CH REGALFLIGHT TARLOCH

The most wonderful head took me back years, I loved his “Type” masculine, he is poor in upper arm and shoulder as are others, but he scored with his super bone and substance, wonderful ribbing with spring, super topline with correct fall away, nice underline and length of loin, super angulations on stifle with low hocks totally comes into his own when moving away his back end is just superb! Such power when moving away, old fashioned in “Type” a lovely Dog hound  as no hound is perfect, he so deserved his RCC.
